Hole In The Water

A giant hole in the water is actually a method to control the discharge flow from the dam or embankment to the downstream areas. Spillways or valve helps prevent flooding of the aging dam that could destroy a dam.
Spillways is a structure used to provide flow control of the dam or embankment leading to the downstream areas. Usually found on the dammed river. Spillways is an innovative anti-flood, so that high water can not exceed the high dam that could cause damage or even destroy the dam. While the base of the spillways is a structure used to release water on a regular basis. So that can be used as hydropower generation. Spillways (controlled) have automatic sluice gates that can be used to regulate water flow and the high dam.
In certain areas spillways are usually equipped with an ice breaker settings to prevent the valve from the closed ice.
Spillway located above the reservoir (water storage reservoirs).

There are two types of spillways: controlled and uncontrolled.

Controlled spillway has a mechanical structure or gate to regulate water flow rate. This design allows to enable adjusting the height of the dam which will be used for storage of water throughout the year, and when the flood can be removed by opening one or more of the spillways.

Uncontrolled spillway, has no door, when the water rises above the lip or the top of the water valve that was started out of the reservoir. Discharge rate is controlled only by the depth of water in the reservoir. All storage volume in the reservoir on top of spillway can only be used for temporary storage of flood water, and can not be used as a storage of clean water.

Nice Blog About natural phenomenon

A natural phenomenon is a non-artificial event in the physical sense, and therefore not produced by humans, although it may affect humans (such as pathogens, aging, natural disasters, death). Common examples of natural phenomena include volcanic eruptions, weather, decay, gravity and erosion. Most natural phenomena, such as rain, are relatively harmless so far as humans are concerned.

Various types of natural phenomena occur, including (but not limited to) the following:

Geological phenomena (volcanic activity and earthquakes)

Meteorological phenomena (hurricanes, thunderstorms, and tornadoes)

Oceanographic phenomena (tsunamis, ocean currents and breaking waves)
